DescriptionLife expectancy in Africa has improved over the lastue and a half, and most of this is due to improved child and maternal mortality rates. However, life expectancy on the continent is still about 10 years lower than the global average, and there is a regional variation with life expectancy lowest in West and Central Africa, and highest in North Africa. Life expectancy is related to the provision of adequate healthcare systems and to this end, in 2010, the World Health Organisation (WHO) Health Report focuse on health financing as means of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC). However, only 8 of 49 (16%) low-income countries have any chance of generating funds from domestic sources to be able to provide UHC. This book looks at the determinants of life expectancy, professionalism and clinical governance, the place of emerging technologies in the delivery of sustainable health care, and health care financing.
