Inspired by Octavia E. Butler’s Parable of the Sower and the historic 2020 California wildfire season, the Map of Dystopia depicts the area traveled by Lauren Olamina and her companions, as well as many of the blazes which defined a record-setting year. In all, more than 9,000 individual wildfires burned a combined 4,257,863 acres (or approximately 4 percent) of the California landscape. These are a few of the most destructive incidents, printed as a reminder for all as we chart our journey forward.
